This isn't every program, of course, but these are the main apps people use now, along with some of what we started out with back in the "old days" when you told someone you were listening to an mp3 and they said "m..p..what?".
Players with "problems" are not here either. That includes KJofol and Sonique (decoding errors).
Also available is a summary of all (OK, most) of the file formats supported by each player.
I know, you want to know what I recommend so you can "get on with it". Windows - start with Media player (you likely already have it) or try WinAMP (good chance you have that too). Mac users, use Quicktime integrated into iTunes. Linux, XMMS is good (and probably in your distribution). Other than that I am up for suggestions.
