News works again - Posted Monday, October 29, 2001 by stede Hey! I fixed the news - and it looks like most of it survived! Our provider has moved the site from a regular shared server to a big, fat cluster. This is good since we will have much greater performance, and bad because the site was down 50% of the time for >1 week :-( We're cooking again, though, and will have some new stuff to add soon.

As Good as it Gets - Posted Saturday, September 23, 2000 by stede After much work trying to find an easy way to get good-quality audio from DVD, we have succeeded. After trying a couple of techniques involving digital recording of the Surround mixdown from a DVD player I decided to go straight to the source. The sound clips from As Good as it Gets are the first attempt to present stereo mp3 audio derived directly from the Dolby Digital AC3 5.1 channel soundtrack. The original AC3 file was demultiplexed straight from the DVD Video object files and used in the production of the clips.
